Abstract : The Diagnostic Rhyme Test was used to investigate the effects of continuous speech maskers upon the apprehensibility of six elementary attributes of consonant phonemes. It was found that speech maskers have a qualitatively unique effect, the nature of which is generally consistent with predictions based on the temporal and spectral properties of speech maskers. Individual differences in susceptibility to masking were also investigated. (Author)
