Abstract : The security protection provided by release 1.0 of the Gould UTX/32S operating system running on a Gould PowerNode processor has been evaluated by the National Computer Security Center (NCSC). The NCSC evaluation team has determined that the highest class at which UTX/32S satisfies all the specified requirements of the Criteria is class C2 and therefore, Release 1.0 of UTX/32S has been assigned a class C2 rating. A system that has been rated as being a class C2 system provides a Trusted Computing Base (TCB) that enforces discretionary access control protection and, through the inclusion of audit capabilities, accountability of subjects for the actions they initiate. The UTX/32S operating system is a general-purpose, time-sharing system that provides two basic security mechanisms. The restricted environment provides separation between administrative and normal users and files. The protection bit mechanism provides discretionary access control.
